Phase-Change Materials

Meaning

Phase-Change Materials (PCMs) are substances that absorb or release large amounts of latent heat during a phase transition, typically from solid to liquid or vice versa, at a specific, narrow temperature range. In a clinical and wellness context, these materials are utilized in specialized textiles or devices to passively regulate microclimates, such as bedding or garments, to help maintain an optimal core body temperature for sleep or physical performance. They offer a passive thermoregulatory solution.
