Phase Advance

Meaning

Phase Advance, within the specialized field of chronobiology and its clinical application to hormonal health, refers to the deliberate or physiological shifting of a person’s intrinsic circadian rhythm to an earlier time point in the 24-hour cycle. This means that the timing of all internal biological events, such as the onset of melatonin secretion and the nadir of core body temperature, occurs sooner. Clinically, achieving this advance is a key therapeutic strategy for individuals suffering from Delayed Sleep-Phase Syndrome (DSPS) or for rapidly adjusting to new time zones.
