Phase 4 Clinical Trials

Meaning

The final stage of post-marketing surveillance clinical studies conducted after a drug or therapeutic intervention has received regulatory approval and is available for commercial use. These trials, also known as post-market studies, are designed to monitor the drug’s long-term safety, track its effectiveness in diverse patient populations, and detect rare or delayed adverse effects that may not have been apparent in earlier, smaller phases. This ongoing monitoring is critical for complete pharmacovigilance.
