Phase 2 Trials

Meaning

Phase 2 trials constitute the second stage of human clinical investigation for a New Chemical Entity (NCE) or a new indication for an existing drug, following initial safety assessments in Phase 1. These trials are primarily designed to evaluate the drug’s efficacy in a specific patient population and to continue assessing short-term safety and dose-ranging. The data gathered here are crucial for determining if the drug warrants the substantial investment required for large-scale Phase 3 studies.
