Pharmacological Dosing

Meaning

The intentional administration of a pharmaceutical agent, such as a hormone or peptide, at concentrations that are significantly higher than the typical physiological or endogenous levels normally produced by the body. This supra-physiological dosing is often necessary to achieve a specific therapeutic effect by saturating receptors, overriding negative feedback loops, or utilizing a drug’s non-endocrine effects. It contrasts sharply with physiological or replacement dosing, which aims to restore normal circulating levels.
