Pharmacokinetics Pharmacodynamics

Meaning

Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics are two fundamental, interconnected branches of pharmacology that describe the complete life cycle and action of a therapeutic substance within the body. Pharmacokinetics (PK) addresses the movement of the substance, encompassing its absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion (ADME). Pharmacodynamics (PD) addresses the effect of the substance, detailing the biochemical and physiological mechanisms of its action, including receptor binding and the resulting therapeutic or adverse effects. The clinical integration of PK/PD principles is essential for designing safe, personalized, and maximally effective dosing regimens in hormonal health.
