Pharmaceutical Ingredients

Meaning

Pharmaceutical ingredients refer to the individual chemical substances or compounds that comprise a medicinal product, broadly categorized into Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) and excipients. APIs are the pharmacologically active components responsible for the therapeutic effect, directly interacting with biological systems to modulate physiological functions or treat disease. Excipients, conversely, are inactive substances included to aid in the manufacturing process, enhance stability, improve palatability, or facilitate drug delivery and absorption within the human body.
