PGC-1α Pathway

Meaning

Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-gamma coactivator 1-alpha (PGC-1α) is a transcriptional coactivator that regulates genes involved in energy metabolism. The PGC-1α pathway refers to the complex signaling network activated by PGC-1α, influencing mitochondrial biogenesis, oxidative phosphorylation, and glucose and lipid metabolism. It acts as a master regulator of metabolic adaptation in response to physiological stimuli like exercise or cold exposure.
