PGC-1α Expression

Meaning

The process by which the gene for Peroxisome Proliferator-Activated Receptor Gamma Coactivator 1-alpha (PGC-1α) is transcribed into its corresponding mRNA and subsequently translated into the functional protein. PGC-1α is a master transcriptional coactivator that regulates genes involved in energy metabolism, particularly mitochondrial biogenesis, oxidative phosphorylation, and angiogenesis. Clinically, enhancing PGC-1α expression is a major target for improving metabolic health, endurance capacity, and cellular longevity.
