PFOA

Meaning

PFOA, or Perfluorooctanoic acid, is a persistent organic pollutant and a member of the per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) class of synthetic chemicals. In the context of hormonal health, PFOA is recognized as a potent endocrine-disrupting chemical (EDC) due to its structural stability and widespread environmental presence. Chronic exposure, even at low levels, has been clinically linked to thyroid hormone disruption, altered sex steroid levels, and potential metabolic dysfunction.
