Persistent Secondary Hypogonadism

Meaning

Persistent Secondary Hypogonadism describes a chronic condition where the gonads, such as the testes in males or ovaries in females, produce insufficient sex hormones due to a dysfunction in the pituitary gland or hypothalamus. This form of hypogonadism is characterized by low levels of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), which are essential signals from the pituitary that normally stimulate gonadal hormone production. Unlike primary hypogonadism, the gonads themselves are capable of function, but they lack the necessary stimulation from the central nervous system.
