Peritubular Fibrosis

Meaning

Peritubular fibrosis is a specific pathological process defined by the abnormal and excessive deposition of collagen and other extracellular matrix components around the seminiferous tubules in the testes, which are the primary sites of male gamete production. This scarring leads to thickening of the basement membrane and the interstitial tissue, creating a restrictive environment that severely impairs the essential transport of nutrients and hormones to the developing germ cells. The condition is a significant histological marker of testicular dysfunction and is frequently associated with non-obstructive male infertility.
