Peripheral Vasculature

Meaning

Peripheral vasculature refers to the network of blood vessels, specifically the arteries, arterioles, capillaries, venules, and veins, that supply blood to the extremities and non-vital organs, lying outside the core circulation of the heart and lungs. The function of this system is critical for regulating systemic blood pressure, distributing oxygen and nutrients to tissues, and thermoregulation. The health and flexibility of the peripheral vasculature, often measured by endothelial function, are directly influenced by circulating hormones and are key indicators of cardiovascular longevity and overall metabolic wellness.
