Perimenopause Hormone Therapy

Meaning

Perimenopause Hormone Therapy (PHT) is a targeted clinical intervention using exogenous hormones, typically low-dose estrogen and/or progesterone, to manage the fluctuating and often disruptive symptoms experienced during the perimenopausal transition. Unlike traditional Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) for post-menopause, PHT often focuses on stabilizing erratic cycles and mitigating symptoms like heavy bleeding, hot flashes, and mood swings. The treatment is customized to address the unique hormonal instability of this phase, aiming to improve quality of life until the patient reaches full menopause. PHT requires careful titration and monitoring due to the patient’s remaining endogenous hormone production.
