Perimenopause Bone Loss

Meaning

Perimenopause Bone Loss refers to the accelerated decrease in bone mineral density (BMD) that begins during the perimenopausal transition and continues into the early postmenopausal years. This phase is clinically significant because the rate of bone loss is often much faster than in the years preceding or following it. The rapid decline in bone density is a direct consequence of hormonal changes and is a primary driver of increased fracture risk later in life. Recognizing and mitigating this bone loss during perimenopause is a crucial preventative strategy in women’s hormonal health.
