Perimenopausal Testosterone

Meaning

Perimenopausal testosterone refers to the circulating levels of the primary endogenous androgen, testosterone, during the transitional period leading up to the final menstrual period of menopause. While often primarily associated with male physiology, testosterone is absolutely crucial for female health, supporting vital functions such as sexual desire, maintenance of bone mineral density, lean muscle mass, and energy levels. During perimenopause, a woman’s total testosterone levels naturally decline, although the extent of this decline and the resulting clinical symptoms vary significantly among individuals. This decline is an important clinical consideration.
