Perifollicular Fibrosis

Meaning

Perifollicular fibrosis refers to the abnormal accumulation of fibrous connective tissue around hair follicles. This pathological process involves excessive collagen and extracellular matrix deposition, leading to hardening and scarring of the dermis adjacent to the follicular unit. It is a common histological feature in cicatricial alopecias, where permanent hair loss results from follicular destruction.
