Performance Periodization

Meaning

Performance Periodization is a structured, systematic approach to organizing training and recovery into cyclical phases of varying intensity and volume to prevent overtraining and maximize long-term physiological adaptation. This clinical strategy is not merely about physical training but is fundamentally an endocrine management tool, as it strategically manipulates stress to elicit predictable hormonal responses. By alternating phases of high-threshold stimulus with periods of active recovery, it optimizes the anabolic-to-catabolic balance, preventing chronic cortisol elevation and maximizing anabolic hormone receptor sensitivity.
