Performance Governor

Meaning

The Performance Governor is a theoretical or functional constraint mechanism within the central nervous system that unconsciously modulates the recruitment of both physical and cognitive resources to prevent catastrophic failure or systemic over-exertion. This mechanism acts as an internal, adaptive safety switch, limiting maximal output based on the perceived physiological state, which includes real-time assessment of energy reserves, hydration status, and thermoregulation. The governor’s set-point is highly influenced by both psychological factors and the overall context of hormonal signaling.
