Peptidomics

Meaning

Peptidomics is the comprehensive, systematic study and quantitative analysis of the entire complement of peptides—the peptidome—within a biological sample, cell, tissue, or organism at a specific point in time. This specialized field of ‘omics’ science focuses on peptides, which are short chains of amino acids, including endogenous bioactive molecules like peptide hormones and neuropeptides. It is a powerful tool for biomarker discovery and understanding the dynamic state of cellular signaling and hormonal regulation.
