Peptide receptor sensitivity refers to the responsiveness of cell surface receptors to binding by their specific peptide hormone ligands, such as insulin, ghrelin, or Growth Hormone-Releasing Peptide (GHRPs). This sensitivity is a critical determinant of the biological effect achieved by a given concentration of the peptide hormone. Clinically, a reduction in this sensitivity, often termed resistance, can lead to endocrine disorders and metabolic dysfunction, such as in the case of insulin resistance. Maintaining optimal peptide receptor function is essential for effective cellular communication and systemic homeostasis.
