Peptide Impurities

Meaning

Peptide impurities are unintended byproducts or chemical contaminants present in a synthesized peptide preparation, resulting from incomplete reactions, side reactions, or degradation during manufacturing and storage. These non-target molecules can include truncated sequences, oxidized amino acid residues, or various counter-ions from the synthesis process. High levels of impurities can compromise the efficacy and safety of a therapeutic peptide, potentially leading to unpredictable physiological responses or adverse immunological reactions in the patient.
