Pellet Insertion Site Reaction

Meaning

A pellet insertion site reaction is the localized, adverse inflammatory or immunological response that occurs in the subcutaneous tissue at the anatomical location where a sustained-release hormone pellet has been implanted for hormone therapy. These reactions commonly present as localized tenderness, bruising, redness, or swelling, but can occasionally involve more complex issues like infection, sterile abscess formation, or pellet extrusion. Proper clinical technique during the procedure and diligent post-procedural patient care are essential factors in minimizing the frequency and severity of these localized tissue responses.
