Pellet Implantation

Meaning

Pellet implantation is a method of hormone delivery involving the subcutaneous insertion of small, custom-compounded pellets containing crystalline hormones, such as testosterone or estradiol, into the fatty tissue, typically in the hip or buttock area. This technique is designed to provide a continuous, slow, and steady release of the hormone into the bloodstream over a period of three to six months. Clinically, it is valued for bypassing the first-pass metabolism of oral administration and for achieving sustained, physiological serum hormone levels, thereby eliminating the daily compliance requirement of other routes. The goal is to maintain hormonal balance without the sharp peaks and troughs associated with injections or creams.
