PCSK9 Regulation

Meaning

PCSK9 regulation refers to the control mechanisms governing the expression and activity of Proprotein Convertase Subtilisin/Kexin type 9, an enzyme that plays a critical role in cholesterol homeostasis. PCSK9 acts by promoting the degradation of the Low-Density Lipoprotein Receptor (LDLR) on the surface of liver cells. Therefore, regulating PCSK9 activity is a powerful therapeutic target for lowering circulating LDL cholesterol levels and significantly reducing cardiovascular risk.
