PCOS Phenotype A

Meaning

PCOS Phenotype A is the most common and classic presentation of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, a heterogeneous endocrine disorder, defined by the presence of all three diagnostic criteria established by the Rotterdam consensus: hyperandrogenism (clinical or biochemical evidence of excess male hormones), ovulatory dysfunction (oligo- or anovulation), and polycystic ovarian morphology (PCOM) on ultrasound. This phenotype represents the full spectrum of the syndrome’s core features, often correlating with the most significant metabolic disturbances, including pronounced insulin resistance and a higher risk for long-term cardiovascular and diabetic complications. Clinical management is complex, requiring a multi-faceted approach to address all three diagnostic components.
