PCOS and Fertility

Meaning

PCOS and fertility refers to the significant reproductive challenges and subfertility experienced by women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) due to the underlying endocrine and metabolic dysregulation. The primary fertility impairment is chronic anovulation or oligoovulation, resulting from persistent androgen excess and disrupted folliculogenesis within the ovary. While spontaneous conception can be difficult, modern reproductive endocrinology offers various therapeutic strategies to induce ovulation and significantly improve the chances of pregnancy. Successful clinical management requires a holistic approach addressing both the hormonal and metabolic components of the syndrome simultaneously.
