Pattern Hair Loss

Meaning

Pattern Hair Loss, or androgenetic alopecia, is a progressive hair thinning with a scalp distribution. It stems from genetically predisposed hair follicles sensitive to androgens, primarily dihydrotestosterone (DHT). This sensitivity causes follicular miniaturization, reducing hair shaft diameter and length. Males show receding hairlines and vertex thinning; females exhibit diffuse crown thinning.
