Pathological Remodeling

Meaning

Pathological remodeling describes maladaptive structural and functional alterations in tissues and organs, typically in response to sustained stress or disease. Unlike beneficial adaptive changes, this process deviates from normal homeostatic mechanisms, leading to progressive deterioration of organ architecture and compromised function. It signifies an often irreversible reorganization of cellular components, impairing the tissue’s intended role.
