Pathological Remodeling

Meaning

Pathological Remodeling refers to the detrimental structural, cellular, and molecular alterations that occur within a tissue or organ in response to chronic injury, sustained hormonal imbalance, or persistent metabolic stress, leading to impaired function and ultimately disease. This maladaptive process involves changes in the extracellular matrix composition, cellular hypertrophy or atrophy, and the induction of pro-fibrotic or inflammatory gene expression patterns. In the context of hormonal health, this is frequently observed in target organs like the heart, liver, or adipose tissue, where chronic hyperinsulinemia or unchecked cortisol exposure drives tissue damage and functional decline. Preventing pathological remodeling is a primary goal of proactive hormonal and metabolic management.
