Particle Concentration Testing

Meaning

Particle Concentration Testing is a diagnostic methodology focused on the direct quantification of the number of circulating lipoprotein particles in the blood, rather than the mass of cholesterol or triglycerides they contain. The most clinically relevant application is the measurement of Low-Density Lipoprotein Particle Number (LDL-P) and Apolipoprotein B (ApoB), as these represent the total burden of atherogenic particles. This testing provides a more accurate measure of cardiovascular risk exposure, especially in patients with metabolic syndrome, compared to traditional cholesterol mass measurements.
