Parkinson’s Disease

Meaning

Parkinson’s Disease (PD) is a chronic, progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by the selective and profound loss of dopamine-producing neurons in the substantia nigra region of the brain. Clinically, it presents with a characteristic motor triad of resting tremor, muscular rigidity, and bradykinesia, alongside a wide spectrum of debilitating non-motor symptoms. While fundamentally a neurological condition, its progression and symptom severity are increasingly recognized to have significant links to endocrine and metabolic health dysregulation.
