Parenteral Delivery

Meaning

Parenteral Delivery is a route of drug administration that bypasses the gastrointestinal tract, involving injection or infusion through a needle into the body. This delivery method includes subcutaneous, intramuscular, intravenous, and intradermal injections, and is clinically utilized when rapid onset of action, precise dosing, or complete avoidance of first-pass hepatic metabolism is required. For certain hormones and therapeutic peptides, parenteral delivery is the only effective way to ensure therapeutic levels are achieved due to their poor oral bioavailability.
