Parathyroid Hormone-Related Protein

Meaning

Parathyroid Hormone-Related Protein (PTHrP) is a peptide structurally similar to parathyroid hormone (PTH), primarily acting as a local paracrine factor. Physiologically, it aids fetal development and mammary gland maturation. Clinically, PTHrP is notable when aberrantly produced by malignancies, causing systemic calcium dysregulation.
