P1NP Biomarker

Meaning

P1NP, or Procollagen Type 1 N-terminal Propeptide, is a biochemical marker released into circulation during type I collagen synthesis, the predominant protein in bone. Its presence indicates active bone formation, reflecting osteoblast activity, the cells building new bone. This peptide fragment is cleaved from procollagen before incorporation into the bone matrix.
