Oxidative Stress and Bone

Meaning

Oxidative stress in the context of bone refers to an imbalance between the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and the capacity of antioxidant defense systems within bone tissue. This cellular disruption leads to damage in osteoblasts, osteoclasts, and osteocytes, consequently impairing the physiological processes of bone formation and resorption, which are crucial for skeletal integrity.
