Overtraining Syndrome Detection

Meaning

Overtraining syndrome detection is the clinical process of identifying a complex neuroendocrine and psychological state resulting from an imbalance between intense training and inadequate recovery. This detection moves beyond simple overreaching to diagnose a prolonged decrease in performance coupled with mood disturbances, hormonal dysregulation, and persistent fatigue. Diagnosis relies on a constellation of signs, including altered heart rate variability, depressed anabolic hormone levels, and subjective reports of poor sleep and motivation. Early detection is critical to prevent severe, long-term disruption to the hypothalamic-pituitary axes.
