Ovarian Steroidogenesis

Meaning

Ovarian Steroidogenesis is the specific biochemical process occurring within the ovarian follicles and corpus luteum responsible for synthesizing steroid hormones, primarily estrogens (like estradiol) and progestogens (like progesterone), from cholesterol precursors. This synthesis is tightly regulated by pituitary gonadotropins, Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH) and Luteinizing Hormone (LH), driving the menstrual cycle and supporting reproductive function. Impairment of this pathway directly results in menstrual irregularities and fertility challenges.
