Ovarian Reserve Decline

Meaning

Ovarian reserve decline refers to the progressive and irreversible reduction in both the quantity and quality of oocytes and follicles within the ovaries, a natural physiological process that accelerates with chronological age. This decline is the fundamental biological determinant of the end of a woman’s reproductive lifespan and the onset of perimenopause and menopause. Clinically, this is assessed by measuring specific biomarkers such as Anti-Müllerian Hormone (AMH) and Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH).
