Ovarian Quiescence

Meaning

Ovarian Quiescence describes a state of profound physiological or induced inactivity in the ovaries, characterized by the complete absence of follicular development, ovulation, and significant sex steroid hormone production. This resting state is a normal occurrence before puberty and following menopause, but it can also be a therapeutic goal in certain clinical settings. Achieving quiescence results in suppressed circulating estrogen and progesterone levels.
