Ovarian Insulin Sensitivity

Meaning

Ovarian Insulin Sensitivity refers to the degree of responsiveness exhibited by the cells within the ovary, particularly the theca and granulosa cells, to the circulating hormone insulin. Optimal sensitivity is a prerequisite for normal ovarian steroidogenesis, follicular development, and the successful coordination of the menstrual cycle. Impaired ovarian insulin sensitivity is a significant pathological factor contributing to hyperandrogenism and ovulatory dysfunction in conditions like Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS).
