Ovarian Fibrosis

Meaning

Ovarian fibrosis is a pathological condition characterized by the excessive and inappropriate accumulation of extracellular matrix proteins, primarily dense collagen, within the ovarian stroma, leading to the formation of rigid, non-functional scar tissue. This severe structural alteration compromises the normal architecture and physiological function of the ovary, including the essential processes of follicular development and steroidogenesis. The resulting tissue stiffness and impaired blood flow can contribute significantly to ovarian dysfunction, reduced fertility, and premature ovarian aging.
