Ovarian Balance

Meaning

Ovarian Balance describes the state of optimal, homeostatic functional output from the ovaries, characterized by the precise, rhythmic production and secretion of the sex steroids, predominantly estrogens and progesterone, and the healthy, timely maturation and release of oocytes. This highly regulated equilibrium is governed by the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian (HPO) axis and is indispensable for reproductive competence, bone health maintenance, cardiovascular protection, and stable mood regulation throughout a woman’s reproductive life. Disturbances in this balance are the basis for many gynecological and endocrine disorders.
