Outsourcing Facilities

Meaning

Outsourcing facilities are specialized pharmaceutical production sites that compound sterile or non-sterile drugs for other healthcare entities, such as hospitals, clinics, or individual practitioners, rather than for specific patient prescriptions. These facilities are often registered with the FDA as “503B outsourcing facilities” under the Drug Quality and Security Act, signifying a higher level of regulatory oversight than traditional compounding pharmacies, particularly concerning good manufacturing practices.
