Osteoporosis

Meaning

Osteoporosis is a systemic skeletal disease defined by compromised bone strength predisposing a person to an increased risk of fracture, often occurring after minimal trauma. Clinically, this condition is characterized by low bone mass and deterioration of bone tissue microarchitecture, frequently accelerated by declining sex hormone levels, particularly estrogen. It represents a failure of bone remodeling balance.
