Osteoporosis Combination Therapy

Meaning

Osteoporosis Combination Therapy refers to the clinical strategy of simultaneously administering two or more distinct pharmacological agents with different mechanisms of action to treat severe or refractory osteoporosis. This approach is employed when monotherapy fails to achieve adequate bone mineral density (BMD) improvement or fracture risk reduction, typically involving the use of a bone formation-stimulating agent alongside an anti-resorptive agent. The goal is to maximize the therapeutic effect by synergistically influencing both the osteoblast and osteoclast components of the bone remodeling unit.
