Meaning

Osteogenesis, fundamentally, is the complex physiological process of bone formation, involving the creation of new bone tissue by specialized cells called osteoblasts. This continuous and highly regulated process is essential for skeletal development during growth and for maintaining bone integrity throughout life via bone remodeling. Hormones such as parathyroid hormone, calcitonin, growth hormone, and sex steroids significantly influence the rate and quality of osteogenesis. Disruption of this balance, often seen with age or hormonal deficiency, leads to conditions like osteoporosis.
