Osteoclast Resorption

Meaning

Osteoclast Resorption is the biological process by which specialized bone cells, called osteoclasts, break down bone tissue and release the stored minerals, primarily calcium, into the systemic circulation. This is a normal, essential component of bone remodeling, which continuously replaces old bone with new bone formed by osteoblasts. However, excessive or dysregulated resorption leads to a net loss of bone mass, contributing directly to conditions like osteoporosis and fragility fractures.
