Oral GnRH Antagonist

Meaning

An Oral GnRH Antagonist is a synthetic, non-peptide medication taken by mouth that directly and competitively blocks the Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone (GnRH) receptors in the anterior pituitary gland. By immediately inhibiting the action of endogenous GnRH, these drugs suppress the release of Luteinizing Hormone (LH) and Follicle-Stimulating Hormone (FSH), leading to a rapid and reversible reduction in sex steroid production. They are clinically utilized for conditions requiring swift and controlled hormonal suppression, such as prostate cancer or endometriosis-related pain.
