Oral Conjugated Equine Estrogen

Meaning

Oral Conjugated Equine Estrogen (CEE) is a pharmaceutical formulation of estrogens derived from the urine of pregnant mares, utilized primarily for Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) in menopausal women. This mixture contains various estrogen sulfates, most notably estrone sulfate, which are biologically active upon metabolism. CEE is prescribed to alleviate significant menopausal symptoms, such as severe hot flashes and urogenital atrophy, and to prevent bone mineral density loss. It represents one of the oldest and most studied forms of systemic estrogen therapy.
